No Walk Away for This Time

Being natural is a talent, somebody cannot pretend to be natural. Being natural is when you react neatly to the thing that you have never expected before. Be good is easy, but sometimes being natural is hard. It becasue sometimes when you face different condition, you tend to behave as a person other than you. You know what I mean?? Come on,,,  just be realistic, doode!!!

Okay, have you ever felt what you have planned neatly did not work as it planned? What did you do than?? Just stare at what is happenning arround you or you say to yourself "It's gonna be alright, just calm down". Sometimes when this condition happen, you might feel so confuse whether you should walk forward or you should take some step backward and walk away then hide under your blanket. I think you'd better walk forward, try to avoid to hide under your comfy blanket. Should I really? the answer is "YOU SHOULD". WHY??? Because whenever you face something that you never expect, you will surprise on how awesome the thing gonna be. I do not need to say the example because I believe you guys know what I mean and it sometimes or most of the time happen to you.

Courageous

People need Courageous in their life! That makes people can continue their life.
Sometimes, the first time you see something you will not understand how important that thing is until that thing will go and you cannot see it again. So, then you will just know how precious it is! : )

Day at School

My Senior Picture

Sooner or later, I will graduate from this school. Believe it or not, I have been passing my first semester in this school. Yet, the final test will be coming tomorrow and the next day (January 19 and 20, 2012). School has been part of my life now. Whether it is good or bad, everybody in this school influenced me a lot during my stay. Building the friendship is something interesting, especially when you got friends to share with. Many people I know, they made my day felt so interesting. I think the most important thing is to understand that everybody is coming from different background. So, it is important not to change what has been happening. Anyway, I just feel so interesting to see when people are happy to be around me.

My first ski in Minnesota :D

I am at the top of the hill!

Last Week, January 7, 2011. Phil (My Local Coordinator) and I were skiing in Welch Village (It's about 35 minutes from my home).I heard the word skiing, but honestly honestly I personally never tried it before. Anyway, it was such a very fun activity. If anybody go to Minnesota, they should try this downhill ski! As usual, it was saturday. As my routine, I woke up at 7 a.m. prayed then continued sleeping (Hehehehee ----> Don't blame me because it was still really dark and I.. just easly felt asleep). Anyway, at 10 I was ready with all my skiing gear. I did not bring my ski, I only prepared my winter coat, winter pant, and gloves. Then at 10.30.. Tadaaaaaa... Phil came. We directly headed to the ski are. (Phil never went to this place before). So, we read the map, and we almost just missed one route. We really enjoyed our conversation. Hehehe. But finally we arrived in the Welch village where we were going to ski. The first time we saw the skiing place, we wondered about the entrance. Because the direction that we got do not really show the exact place. Anyway, it was so weird for me because in the skiing place we can see such a really thick snow. Meanwhile the area surround the ski place was just completely dry!. We got to the entrance. And here is my picture in the entrance by holding Phil's ski board.

In the entrance

BY then, we headed to the ski learning center and rent the ski shoes, ski board and helm for me. I took level 1 ski lesson, it means the lesson for those who never goes ski before and I was one of them. The most horrible part was when I tried the ski shoes. I felt so weird wearing that. Because once you put it on then you walk, you will feel that you walk on the moon. And if you tied the shoes too TIGHT, your feet will definetly hurt so bad! Anyway, I was not the only one who walked that way, peole there walk the same. But stil, I think most of the poeple has been usual with that. My ski instructor came after I was ready with all the ski gear. His name is Sasha. He is actually a Russian (I noticed his accecnt at the first time he talked to me. I am so Proud!! :D). He moved to America 20 years ago. Anyway, My lesson ran so quickly (it was only an hour lesson). I though it was not that difficult, though, I fell down couple time (as usual). I was so nervous by the time I should moved down from the lift. Because I was so afraid that I would fall. When I was accompanied with my instructor, I was okay. But, When I was withPhil, I passed the board of the girl who fell in front of me. At that time, I was so afraid that I would break her snowboard. But Phil told me that she was fine. Anyway, after an hour lesson I can skiied without my instructor!!!!!! :D What a pride. I skiied with Phil the rest of the day. What I like from ski was I really enjoyed when I move down. I can make curve and alo when I move down really fast basically I can passed the uphill. BUt, I needed to be really careful becuse I should not cruch people who did ski in front of me. I think fro my first ski, I chose to go to the easy level hill. I just did not wat to fall and rolling over from the hill. Hehehehe. It was so much fun. The next day, my body was sore (not too bad though). It was Sunday, thankfully. So, I can rest after back from church. Thank You Phil, it was such a wonder ful day!

Family Weekend

It was this fall,, just want to recall my memory.. :D Weekend. I'm really excited and exhausted with weekend. Weekend. Weekend. Yeyeyeyeyyeeyeyeye. :D (Random Thought) LOL :D

Here are something that I did this weekend. You know what I never dealt with the gardening project, when my hostmom offered me to help her with her gardening project, I was so excited. :D I directly dressed up because it was such a chilly day, it has not snowed yet, but I think it was just a little bit too chilly.

Well, what I did was basically just sprayed the pumpkin that my hostmom had harvested. I sprayed the surface of the pumpkins with the vinegar solution. My hostmom said it was aimed to prevent the pumpkins got mold. You know what, there were about hundreds pumpkins. And We all three, my mom, Maggie and I shoul sprayed them all. It is not all about our work, why? Because we should move all the pumpkins to our back fort. Then we all brought the pumpkins back and forth. We are smart! Because we brought all the pumpkins with Maggie's little wagon. So, it was so much helpful. Because we can put about ten to fifteen pumpkins at one time. So far, we are doing great!

While girls are doing with pumpkins, what boys are doing? They all did with the barn, they cleaned barn and the greenhouse. In the afternoon we all almost quite done with our work. So, we decided to take the lunch break then continue our work. For about three in the afternoon, our work was done. Then we all felt so tired, and we decided to take a little rest. I did not feel to have nap, though.

Tadaaaa.... in the night, we still have something to be done. WE SHOULD MOVE ALL PUMPKINS TO OUR BASEMENT!!!! I know it sound like so much work, and it was. So we all six stood in line from the back door, stair to basement. At first, my host dad was in outside, Thomas and Maggie were close to the back door, Timothy was at the stair, and my hostmom and I were in the basement. We walked back and forth to get the pumpkins. But then after we though it was not quiet efficient if we just grab one by one of the pumpkins, so we decided to use the bucket and put some pumpkins then set them all in the basement. The formation changed, Later Thomas decided to change Dad to be outside, Maggie still content with her position, and now there we Mom, Dad, and I in the basement. It made our work down in the basement became faster. Also, we actually need more people to stand in the basement.

Today, we all worked together. And soon we all go to bed, and woke a little bit late in the next morning! What a day.

Bright Pumpkins that we moved!

The Grapes of Wrath ( I learned from what I wrote)

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck consistently points to the fact that migrants’ great suffering is caused not by bad weather or misfortune but rather by their fellow human beings. The disastrous drought of 1930 forces farmers to migrate westward to California. Tom Joad, four years in prison, who exhibits a rare strength, thoughtfulness, and moral certainty, is destined for more than mere day-to-day survival. Tom undergoes the most significant transformation in the novel as he sheds a philosophy for a commitment to bettering the future.

After spending four years in prison, Tom begins his life in his home. He will soon emerge as a leader among his people. Tom admits to Jim Casy, “Night after night in my bunk I figgered how she’d be when I come home again… I knowed it wouldn’t be the same as it was…” (60). If Tom finds himself in a situation similar to the one that landed him in jail, he would behave no differently now. He also proves that he might not do the same as before by saying, “I ain’t got a thing in the worl’ to win, no matter how it comes out” (63).

Tom puts a theory into practice by way of a revolutionary fight for the rights of their fellow man, as he says, “I got thinkin’ how we was holy when we was one thing. An’ it on’y got unholy when one mis’able little fella got the bit in his teeth an’ run off his own way, kickin’ an dreggin’ an ‘ fightin’. Fella like that bust the holi-ness. But when they’re all workin’ together, not one fella for another fella, but one fella kind of harnessed to the whole shebang – that’s right, that’s holly” (88). Tom picking up where his mentor left off, resolves to unify his soul with the greater soul of human kinds.

As Tom says good bye to Ma Joad, he relates to the bit of Jim Casy’s wisdom. He states, “Lookie, Ma. I been all day an’ all night hidin’ alone. Guess who I been thinkin’ about? Casy! He talked a lot. Used ta bother me. But, now I been thinkin’ what he said, an’ I can remember – all of it. Says one time he went ouy in the wilderness to find his own soul, an’ he found he didn’ have no soul that was his’n. He found he just got a little piece of a great big soul. Says a wilderness ain’t no good, ‘cause his little piece of a soul wasn’t no good ‘less it was with the rest, an’ was whole…” (461). This statement not only echoes Casy’s definition of holiness but also lead to the transformation of Tom’s character inspired by his friend’s teaching and his own experiences. Tom no longer focuses his thought only on the present moment. Instead realizing his responsibility to his fellow human beings, he starts on a path toward bettering the future, helping generations of workers yet to come. By this way he turns from just “a little piece of a great soul” to becoming “a whole great soul”.

The death of Jim Casy completes the transformation of Tom Joad into a man ready to take responsibility for the future and to act accordingly. Tom says to Ma, “Wherever they’s a fight so hungry people can eat, I’ll be there. Wherever they’s a coop beatin’ up a guy, I’ll be there. If Casy knowed, why, I’ll be in the way guys yell when they’re mad an’ – I’ll be in the way kids laugh when they’re hungry n’ they know supper’s ready. An’ when our folks eat the stuff they raise an’ live in the houses they build – why, I’ll be there. See? God, I’m talkin’ like Casy. Comes of thinkin’ about him so much. Seems like I can see him sometimes” (463). Tom assure Ma Joad that regardless of whether Jim Casy lives or dies, his spirit will continue on in the triumphs and turmoil of the world. As the Joad are torn apart, Tom’s words offer the promise of a deep, lasting connection that no tragedy can break unity of all mankind.

A Tom’s political involvement increase, he changes the way he looks toward a problem. Tom asserts that he is interested only in getting through the present day; thinking about the future proved too troubling a task. Now, however, devotes as he is to his family and his fellow migrants, Tom begins to look forward the future and its possibilities. The hardship and hostility faced by Joad family on their journey west serve to convert Tom to Casy’s teaching. During their journey west, Tom assumes Jim Casy’s reluctant disciple. Overall, the disciple emphasizes that a human being, when acting alone, can have little effect on the world, and that one can achieve wholeness only by devoting oneself to one’s fellow human beings.

Joyful is always there when I try :D

The joyful always fill up my day around during my stay with The Ployhars. Every day is always worth it because we all share such happiness beyond our diversity. I am hosted in a small town, Kenyon, Minnesota. Living around with the farm animals and the house is 5 miles away from the town; it gives me a whole new daily life. I also spend a great time with my host sister and brothers; Thomas (14), Timothy (12), and Maggie by sharing and caring in all our daily activities. I learn the tradition from my American family and my fellow at school. “Being happy does not mean everything is perfect. It means you decide to see beyond the imperfection”. Challenge is always there whenever you decide to leave your comfort zone. I enjoyed facing the challenge during my stay. Because I believe challenge gives me the joy when I had passed it.

During my stay, I go to Kenyon-Wanamingo High School. It is interesting because my host family do homeschool. It means they do not go to the same public school that I go to. I learned the system of the homeschool that my host family does, basically they do more exploration about their school materials and they have more flexible time. As the only exchange student in this high school, I did sharing the Indonesian cultures in most of my time. My schoolmates like when I did the presentation about Indonesia. When I did the presentation about Indonesia, I danced and my friend volunteered to join me dance. Another thing, they also found the Indonesian food was really interesting when I cooked “Perkedel” in food class. I involved in many after school activities, I am in High School play. This time the play is the musical play. It became my daily routine to have after school practice. Another thing, I also am in Math club and Speech Club. Joining many extracurricular activities, I can experience new things.

One thing I like about living in the diversity is when there is nobody even bothers with what you decide on. I enjoyed being in the church community that my host family goes to. I found such a good friendship in the youth group. I do not mind to learn what they believe in and I felt excited to share about what I believe. From that I know we all have the commonality. It was also such a joyful for me to join the church retreat for three days in the middle of fall, in which we all found the fellowship among the youth in that church. It was such an interesting thing when my friends in that retreat saw me doing my worship praying. They thought it was something strange, but I told them I was doing my pray. It just the way thing happened when people do not really familiar with a thing. So, it is important to share what people have not understood about.

In the first week of December, my host family, The Ployhar, brought me along in their vacation. My host family and I went to a week Cruise ship vacation to Jamaica, Cayman Island and Cozumel, Mexico. It was such a wonderful experience, because it was my first cruise trip. Besides I did many activities that I never done before. I learned that it was really challenging for me to learn ice skating and rock climbing. Another thing, I also did snorkeling, I saw a very pretty corals and fishes. The warmth weather made me felt like home. One thing I like was meeting friend from different states and countries, such Canada, Spain, Mexico, and many others. I also met some crews who worked on the ship who actually was from Indonesia. I got to know how wonderful their experience working onboard.
The most important thing about this stay is about learning the new tradition of the American way of living and sharing my culture. There are so many ways we can share the joy which we all can do by our own way. Meeting with new people, understand their life and put trust on them; it is the beginning of sharing culture. I believe the joyful is always come when we trust what we do is worth it, because I always bring my own sunshine wherever I go. What I am doing now is worth it for my family, my fellow American, and fellow Indonesian.
